April/May Events

What's Up everyone! Hope you all are doing well. It's been a wild and crazy past few months. With the addition of college classes that I'm currently taking for the Fire Dept, the birth of mine and my wife's firstborn son, working as a Firefighter and DJ/MC; my world, as you can imagine is pretty exciting!
Over the past month I've had the opportunity to DJ a few very special weddings and an exciting Senior Prom for Haleyville High School.
Let's start with the Prom... Myself, with the assistance of John Brewer made the 2 hour ride up to Haleyville to Rock their Prom! We began with leadouts, highlighting the seniors with a spotlight and grand entrance. Soon the party began, and these kids were no slouches. They danced the night away!
Weddings are a very special day, not just for the Bride & Groom, but for the parents as well. The past few Father/Daughter dances that I've had the privilege to MC were incredibly emotional.... But the Mother/Son formal dances did not let down. I want to tell you a brief story from this past weekend.
I was requested to DJ this particular wedding nearly 9 months ago. After meeting with Jennifer and her mom, we knew that I would be the perfect fit for their night. Jennifer works for the City of Montgomery and her newly married husband, Chris, is a talented local artist who will be a well-known national name very soon. During the Pre-Event conference with Jennifer she told me about the recent loss of Chris' father and that they had a special dedication song as his Mother/Son dance.... Fast Foward to Saturday night.
The ceremony and reception was held at the infamous Rucker Place located on Birmingham's historic Southside District.  The entire northern wall of the Rucker Place is fill with glass pane windows overlooking the night lights of the city and provide the perfect backdrop for a romantic night. I set uplights around the room and placed a few under my DJ table which made the entire table glow turquoise to match the wedding colors.
As the guests arrived for the reception cocktail hour upstairs, Chris and Jennifer enjoyed a nice meal alone in the Bridal Suite. When they finished last minute photos we began the Grand Introduction. They enjoyed their First Dance and Jennifer and John (her Father) enjoyed the Father/Daughter dance..... and then it came time for the special dedication. After I called Mrs. Minnie (Chris' mom) to the floor I dedicated this dance to Chris' father. He had picked the song "Dance with My Father Again" by Luther Vandross.
Needless to say there was not a dry eye in the room. It is times and moments like these that make DJing a Wedding and being a huge part of the best day in a person's life worth all the time and effort that it takes to be a successful Wedding Entertainer.
I'll be taking the month of May off and plan on heading to the Gulf for some Fun in the Sun!!! and hopefully catch a few fish along the way! Have a great Spring everyone!
